STATEMENT
Newton"s third law of motion states 'that for any action, there is an equal and opposite reaction'. In this series titled CONTROL, I explore this concept and the challenge of defining this theme in an artistic but literal sense by implementing various methods of control that suggest 'pushing', 'pulling' or 'squeezing'. I examine how it effects every facet of our lives, be it politics, religion, relationships, finances etc. and that this all-encompassing desire to assert some form of control over one’s own individual environment is a very basic and personal aspiration. There have always been social and economic inequalities due to one’s ability, or inability, to control their own existence and will continue to be manipulated by innumerable variations of external influence.
This series of original, 1/1, mixed media paintings and sculptures incorporate a combination of materials such as enamel, acrylic, lacquer, oil, wire, pulleys, textiles, wood, metal, spikes, sand etc. I have always tried to create work that has a strong, emotional impact that draws a viewer in and evokes a response that can be initiated by one’s own personal perceptions of my art. Within this individual reaction, hopefully, lies the opportunity for a more acute observation and understanding of this series and my work as an artist.
